Hello Anti-F*ckers! 🎉

Among several exciting bits of news—some yet to be revealed—Anti-Karaoke Barcelona is moving to Diobar, located in Barcelona's Born neighborhood.

The reason is due to a sudden change in schedule at Club Sauvage. In July, management informed me that the club's new owners had decided to change the concert schedule so that everyone would have to finish by 11:30 p.m. at the latest. We had no say in the matter; it was an executive decision, take it or leave it.

So we left it. We are thankful to Club Sauvage for the marvelous year we were able to spend there.

The reason is obvious: ending a half-hour earlier is not an option. The A.K. needs three hours to satisfy the needs of the audience; even with three hours, we have to impose a time limit on requests, and even with that time limit, there's often a handful of people for whom the time runs out to sing. Therefore, shortening the A.K. by half an hour would be catastrophic. So I've been looking for a new basement asylum, well located, with equal or better conditions than Sauvage... and I luckily found it in the nearby Born neighborhood: Diobar.

Of course, the folks from Diobar already knew the legendary Anti-Karaoke; they'd of course come to an A.K. back in the day and were delighted to welcome us to their beautiful room. The Anti-Karaoke on May 23, 2025, was one of those evenings with a slightly smaller audience than usual, but the magic, energy, and camaraderie were at their peak.

As always, a good mix of veterans (singers and those just participating in the audience) came to greet Rachel and reminisce about the time—whether at Apolo or Sidecar—when they used to come 10, 15, or even 20 years ago. It's always a powerful moment to discover a new personal story that's another thread in the fabric of the long, 20-year history of Anti-Karaoke!

It was also a wonderful surprise to see Suso and Gonzalo, our original sound technicians from the old Sidecar days ten years ago! Later, Gonzalo, who enjoys the special status of being one of the very few sound guys who dared to perform, would get out from the booth and onstage to rock us hard, just as he used to in the past.

El Anti-Karaoke del 23 de mayo, 2025 fue una de esas veladas con un público un poco más reducido de lo habitual, pero la magia, energía y camaradería estaban a tope.

Como siempre, vino una buena mezcla de veteranos (cantantes y los que sólo participaban como público) a saludar a Rachel y recordarle de la etapa — que fuera en Apolo o en Sidecar — en la que solían venir hace 10, 15 o incluso 20 años. ¡Siempre es un momento que impacta, al descubrir una nueva historia personal que forma parte del tejido de la larga historia de 20 años del Anti-Karaoke!

También fue una grata sorpresa ver a Suso y Gonzalo, nuestros técnicos de sonido originales de la época de Sidecar, ¡hace diez años! Más tarde, Gonzalo, quien goza de un estatus especial por ser uno de los pocos técnicos de sonido que se atrevió a actuar, salía de la cabina y nos hacía vibrar con fuerza como solía hacerlo antes. Antes del concierto, nuestro fotógrafo oficial de guerra de A.K., Desi, les tomó una foto a ambos con Rachel para conmemorar el reencuentro.

El retorno del Anti-Karaoke a Madrid - y precisamente a su casa, la Sala El Sol - fue una velada llena de reencuentros, risas, locura, sorpresas, y sobre todo, amor.
Un poquito de preámbulo:
Cuando Rachel se puso en contacto con la Sala El Sol el verano pasado para proponer el retorno del Anti, fue con un sentimiento de pavor. No sabía qué esperar, ya que diez años habían pasado y la sala había cambiado de dirección.
La respuesta del nuevo programador, Raúl, fue entusiasta. Aunque él nunca había asistido al Anti, algunos de sus colegas, sí — y le habían transmitido que era un evento mágico y único para no perderse. Así que la leyenda del Anti-Madrid ya precedió ese primer contacto. Y desde entonces, Rachel pudo contar con el apoyo de la sala. Se lo menciona aquí porque ese apoyo fue esencial al éxito de la velada. Como muchos artistas ya saben, el apoyo moral, la buena actitud, y la buena organización de una sala pueden marcar la diferencia entre el éxito y el fracaso. Y la Sala El Sol ha demostrado una actitud y un nivel de funcionamiento que debería servir de modelo para otros clubes.
Hay que agradecer también a Dani, el director de la Sala El Sol, y José, el director técnico de sonido, que se esforzaron para que el primer Anti en 10 años saliera lo mejor posible... y que además era un excelente locutor. Y a Frank, quien se aseguró de que todo en la sala estuviera en orden la noche del show, y Roberto, quien por primera vez trabajó la lista de canciones. Y a Esther, también conocida como Mamy Blue, por ayudar con la producción de tantas maneras, desde semanas antes hasta el final.

Anti-Karaoke returns to Madrid & Barcelona

After an 8-year hiatus, Rachel Arieff's Anti-Karaoke returns to both Spanish cities -- Barcelona and Madrid -- in 2024! The show will take place once a month in each city.

The first show will be on August 1st, 2024 at the Sala Bóveda, its new home in Barcelona. The next show will be on September 5th, also at the Sala Bóveda. There will also be a show at Bóveda on December 5th. The dates for October and November in Barcelona are to be announced.

The first Anti-Karaoke in Madrid will be on October 9th, to celebrate the 45th anniversary of El Sol club, the legendary site of the "Movida madrileña" -- the Madrid-based, post-Franco cultural revolution of the arts of Spain, and the A.K.'s original Madrid home.

The rest of the Madrid dates will be announced soon. Consult the calendar on the home page to see new dates on the calendar as well as to buy tickets in advance, as capacity in both clubs is limited.

¡El legendario Anti-Karaoke de Rachel Arieff retorna a la noche Barcelonesa!

Después de un descanso de 8 años, y 20 años después de su nacimiento, el auténtico Anti-Karaoke volverá a arrancar el 1 de agosto de 2024. La Sala Bóveda será su nueva casa, donde se celebrará el primer jueves del mes*.

Casi 20 años después de su debut, el legendario Anti-Karaoke de Rachel Arieff retorna a la noche Barcelonesa.

El primer jueves de agosto en la sala Bóveda, la cómica Rachel Arieff presentará su fusión única de karaoke, concierto de rock, fiesta underground y pasarela de personajes estrambóticos, que en su casi 20 años de existencia (!) se ha convertido en un clásico del ocio español, además de ser conocido por toda Europa. Efectivamente, ¡hay gente que planifica sus vacaciones en torno al Anti-Karaoke!

Por qué vuelve el Anti? ¡Porque la gente - Rachel incluida - lo añora! Y con el paso de tiempo, el show ya se ha convertido en nostalgia. Después de la pandemia, ¡la gente tiene más mono que nunca del Anti!
